Communications Specialist

Overview

The Communications Specialist will be responsible for contributing content in support of DeVry University's internal communications strategy. The selected candidate will write, produce and publish content designed to inform, inspire and engage DeVry colleagues and faculty regarding its Mission and latest University news and information, as well as be leveraged by university senior leadership. The Specialist also ensures that a consistent, targeted message is communicated in various internal communications channels. To be most successful, the selected candidate should possess excellent written and verbal communications skills, a strong eye for graphic arts content and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Copywriter for content supporting various internal and external communications projects. Written content to include, but not limited to:
    • Leadership Communications
    • Email, including leadership and crisis communications
    • Social media posts
    • Graphic / image copy
    • Scripting for video and audio / podcast recordings
    • Popup and ticker notifications
    • Newsletters

  • Video and graphics production in support of various internal and external communications projects, including, but not limited to:
      • Imagery / graphics for use in written communications, video projects, screensavers and social media postings.
      • Onsite filming, including setup of cameras, lighting, audio equipment and teleprompters.
      • Videography, photography and audio capture of subjects
      • Post-production of video / photography / sound assets
      • Cataloguing of produced assets for inter-departmental use
  • Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Sourcing and interviewing internal talent (colleagues and faculty) for written or filmed pieces
  • Providing preparatory and production support for university events like Town Halls and commencement ceremonies
  • Coordinating with departments such as Marketing, Governmental Relations and Public Relations regarding the development and deployment of communications collateral
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably with a major in Journalism, Communications or related area; Master's degree preferred.
  • At least five years' experience in communications.
  • Previous experience with executive communications, social media and/or video production a plus.
  • Must be very collaborative.
  • Must have strong writing and editing skills.
  • Must be self-starter with demonstrated ability to consistently meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively both as an individual contributor and as part of a team.
  • Well organized with ability to multi-task.

  • Familiarity with the following production tools preferred, but not required:
  • Adobe Suite– Video / graphic / sound editing software. Includes:
    • Premiere Pro
    • Audition
    • Illustrator
    • Photoshop
  • Camtasia– Video editing software
  • Canva– Online graphic design tool
Salary $50-60k
