We are seeking a forward-thinking Benefits Manager who is passionate about supporting colleague health, well-being, and overall experience in a fast-paced, evolving environment. The Benefits Manager will lead the design, implementation, and administration of a broad and complex, multi-state portfolio of benefit programs. This includes continuously evaluating market trends, colleague needs, and emerging innovations to ensure our programs remain relevant, cost-effective, and aligned with organizational goals. This role offers strong visibility with senior leaders and requires a high-touch, strategic partnership approach with vendors and brokers.
Experience working with brokers such as HUB International and strong exposure to benefits pricing and vendor partnerships will be highly valuable in this role.
Responsibilities
Benefits Administration (70%)
- Lead the strategy, design, and execution of a comprehensive, multi-state portfolio of benefits programs, including health, wellness, retirement, disability, and time-off programs, with a strong focus on colleague well-being.
- Serve as a key partner to senior leadership, providing insights, recommendations, and updates on benefits strategy, trends, and program performance.
- Build and maintain high-touch, strategic relationships with vendors and brokers, ensuring strong service delivery, innovation, and accountability.
- Partner closely with brokers (e.g., HUB International) and vendors to optimize plan design, pricing strategies, and service delivery.
- Leverage data, analytics, and emerging technologies (including AI-enabled tools where applicable) to inform decision-making, improve efficiency, and enhance the colleague experience.
- Operate with agility in a fast-paced environment, driving continuous improvement and innovation in benefit offerings.
- Manage a large and complex portfolio of benefits, ensuring alignment between colleague needs, organizational priorities, and financial sustainability.
- Lead processes that support open enrollment and ongoing administration, resolving issues quickly and effectively.
- Ensures compliance with governmental regulations related to benefit programs and labor law, including ERISA, FMLA, and HIPAA. This includes required testing and audits and SOX compliance
Retirement Plans Administration (15%)
- Lead the strategy and design of 40l(k) plans
- Ensure preparation and distribution of 401K communications and conduct the necessary audits and regulatory filings
- Oversees with funding calculations and fund 401(k) plan contributions each pay period
- Manage quarterly/annual retirement plan audits. Keep abreast of industry trends and continually refine the 401(k) administration process, ensuring best practices are in place
Wellness Programs Administration (15%)
- Lead all aspects of DeVry’s wellness program strategy, including but not limited to attending meetings with wellness platform vendor, creation of monthly newsletter, and assist in optimizing wellness programs
- Lead Devry’s strategy around development and implementation of wellness programs, including quarterly challenges, maintaining calendar of events and all vendor/data needs
- Manage creation and distribution of educational materials on all aspect of wellness programs
- Collect and analyze data to measure effectiveness of programs and research/recommend new initiatives
- Completes other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in related discipline required
- Minimum of 8+ years of experience in benefits, including managing multi-state benefit programs
- CEBS certification preferred.
- Ability to manage and mentor a small team
- Experience in HRIS systems (Dayforce preferred)
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint
- Maintains knowledge of all applicable leave and accommodation laws including the FMLA, ADA, and state and local laws
- Must possess excellent organizational, customer service, verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multi-task, work independently and within a fast-paced team environment is critical.
- Must possess high attention to detail.
- Must have the ability to prioritize work and follow up with minimal supervision.
